About Bob Tatosian: Growing up under the flight path of O'Hare International Airport in the City of Chicago, Bob Tatosian took an avid interest in aviation starting in the fifth grade. Years of airplane watching developed into the desire of becoming an airline pilot. By senior year of high school, Bob's aviation interest turned from piloting to Air Traffic Control. Moving to Miami, Florida to attend Miami-Dade North Community College, Bob obtained his commercial pilot's license and instrument rating while working as a line service technician at Miami Aviation Corporation at the Opa-Locka Airport. Hired by the FAA in 1982, Bob completed Air Traffic Controller training at the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City and was assigned to the Minneapolis Air Route Traffic Control Center in Farmington, Minnesota. Working the terminal sectors that border the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport, Bob also held positions as a temporary area supervisor and traffic management coordinator. Returning to the "boards" after three years in these positions, Bob continues to control traffic in "Area 2" at Minneapolis ARTCC (ZMP), as well as look up at every aircraft that flies overhead. Bob's family is used to him pulling over to the side of the road to watch a B747 take off or land. |
